Bold actresses of Bollywood who broke the jinx

In a paradigm shift from conventional cinema to modern cinema, following are the actresses who have completely changed the art of film-making. I am not referring to the vulgar and cheap movies where the actress has exposed for the commercial success of the movie with no content but  I am referring to movies and the actresses which have acted as per the audacious script which reflect the social evils and the problems of a young adult. The films give a perspective to hail the real subjects which were considered as a taboo.
·         Lashmi
·         Zeenat Aman
·         Simi Garewal
·         Mandakini
·         Rekha
·         Sharmila Tagore
·         Devika Rani
·         Dimple Kapadia

Lashmi: The real Name of Lakshmi was Yaragudipadi Venkata Mahalakshmi : Lakshmi played a bold role in Julie in the movie “ Julie” in 1975. The film depicts the complications and the problems of a woman faces in a premarital sex. The film also depicts the restrictive social conventions regarding inter-caste (inter- Religious marriage in this case) and unwanted motherhood in India. The film was ahead of his time and exposes the prejudices associated with inter caste marriage and how a woman is believed to be the cause of seduction sparing men for forbidden relationships.
Julie was a musical hit. This was the first film where the entire song in the movie “ My heart is beating “was sung by Preety Sagar in English,, which became a source for disco and pop singing for upcoming singers like ‘Usha Uthap, Sharon Prabhakhar and Alisha Chinnoy’ .

Zeenat Aman : Zeenat Aman is the epitome of boldness, who have performed bold roles consistently .Zeenat Aman’s roles were absolutely unconventional. She was the one who broke the stereo types by exposing her skin in RaJ Kapoor’s masterpiece Satyam Shivam Sundram. Despite her exposure the film does not seem to be vulgar. At least it does not seem to me, because the story line and the subsequent direction of Raj Kapoor completely overshadow the skin revealed by her. She equally performed strong role in B. R. Chopra’s’ Insaaf Ka Tarazu’. Which tells about the stigma woman faces for the rape everywhere including the courts, where the sneaky and cunning lawyers ask the question to woman to prove rape; she has to respond how she was raped. This is a subject which no director thought of. The role performed by Zeenat Was historical. Zeenat played bold avatar in films like Qurbani, Abdulah, , Aashiq Hoon Bharon Ka ( where she plays a strip poker)

Simi Garewal; Simi Garewal spent her initial years in England. Her facility with the English language induced the makers of the English-language ‘film Tarzan goes to India’ to offer her a role when she was just fifteen.. She is known for her exquisite bold roles in ‘Mera Naam Joker’ and ‘Sidharth’ were a couple of movies where she played nude roles to satiate the theme of the movie. Simi Garewal’s role in Joker depicts the infatuation of a teenager getting seduced to the opposite sex; it brings in a subject where the answer of teen age lies with Manoj Kumar who informs the Simi Garewal the problem the student is experiencing. When confronted by Simi; how does he know that? The answer comes plainly that he was also a sixteen year youth. Therefore Manoj suggested her not to reprimand the student but to help him out.
In ‘Sidarth’ she again performed a nude role. The film tells the about the introspection of a man to lead a meaningful life played by Shashi Kapoor. It loosely reflects the stages of life and sex into  physical, psychological and spiritual - and provides guidance on how the materialism of life can’t bring  the inner peace.

Mandakini: Mandakini made her mark after appearing in the movie ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili (1985)’.Raj Kapoor continued the experiment with using the beauty of the body to expose it in a way that it fits into a role and justifies it too. He used ‘Zeenat Aman’ in white Sari,’Simi Garewal’ in literally no clothes and Mandikini breastfedding her baby. She also bared her skin in a muslin transparent cloth revealing her body while bathing.
According to Philip lutgendorif the movie is an allegory that "synthesizes classical and mythic narrative, soft-core political and social commentary. It exposes the dirty political nexus where lusty men of socially influenced background, uses women as a pawn to appease their lust.

Rekha:  Rekha took the films when she was experiencing the financial crunch as his father did not acknowledge his paternity during her childhood. She started as a child actress and made a debut in Hindi movies with ‘Sawan Bhadon’. She has often played strong and complicated female characters, from fiction to literary, in both mainstream and independent films. Though her career has gone through certain periods of decline, she has gained a reputation for reinventing herself numerous times and has been credited for her ability to sustain her status.
Rekha has done so many bold roles, which others could not even imagine. She got into steamy roles after she initially did a steamy kissing scene with Biswajit Chaterjee, The scene was for her debut Bollywood film Anjana Safar (1969). Due to censorship issues, the film saw its release under the name Do Shikaari (1979). She continued her bold avatars in the movie Ghar with Vinod mehra. In Astha she played a role of a sex worker to fulfil her materialistic lavish life. She had sexually explicit shots with Om puri and Naveen Nischal in the movie. In Utsav she plays the role of courtesanBased on the 2nd century BCE, Sanskrit play "Daridra-Charudatta". She performed sexually explicit scenes with relatively new actor Shekhar Suman. In Kama sutra, she plays the teacher of Great saint Vatsyan teaching courtisans the art of love making. In khiladayon ke Khiladi, she played a boiling performance with a much younger actor than her in a mud-wrestle like heated animals.

Sharmila Tagore: In 1967, Sharmila Tagore was the first Indian actress to wear a bikini in the movie ‘An evening in Paris’. She also posed for the cover photo of Film fare magazine wearing a sexy two-piece. That surely must have flown off the shelves like hot cakes.
Devika Rani: The longest ever kiss in a Bollywood film stands at four minutes between Devika Rani and Himanshu Roy in 1933. The film was Karma

Dimple KapadiaDimple Kapadia performed bold roles in Bobby, Sagar, Dl Chahata hai etc.
